EV Encounter in 2025 : JAECOO J6

For years, the Suzuki Jimny held a special place in my heart. Its boxy charm and rugged appeal symbolized freedom and adventure, reminiscent of teenage dreams and imagined picnics on its flat front boot. However, the 2024 Jimny's launch left me disheartened. Despite its hefty price tag, the interior felt outdated—no leather seats and a design that seemed stuck in the past.

Then, during a trip to Singapore, something unexpected caught my eye. From an upper level in a shopping mall, I spotted a vehicle that radiated the boxy allure I adore. Drawn to it, I descended to take a closer look. It was the Jaecoo J6—a name unfamiliar to me, especially since I'd never seen it in Malaysia.

The Jaecoo J6 is an all-electric SUV from Chery's sub-brand, Jaecoo. Its design is undeniably sporty and boxy, echoing the aesthetics that made me fall for the Jimny. Its WLTP-rated range stands at 342 km, making it suitable for daily commuting, especially with home charging options.

In Malaysia, the Jaecoo J6 was previewed in June 2024, with an official launch anticipated in 2025. It's expected to be introduced under the "iCar 03" nameplate

While the J6's design captivated me, a closer inspection revealed a drawback: limited rear legroom. This was a letdown, especially when considering it as a potential daily driver.

My stance on EVs remains cautious. The current infrastructure in Malaysia isn't fully equipped to support widespread EV adoption. However, for daily commuting with overnight home charging, an EV like the Jaecoo J6 could be a viable option.

I even snap a photo of their tyre, to know the price of it! hehee

In conclusion, while the Jimny will always hold nostalgic value, the Jaecoo J6 has piqued my interest. Its modern features combined with a design that resonates with my preferences make it a contender. Perhaps, with time and improved infrastructure, I'll find myself embracing the EV revolution.

Until next post!
